Commerce and culture embrace the metaverse, with fashion labels such as Gap and apparel giants like Nike, Adidas and Adidas and, now, the Doggfather.
Snoop Dogg purchased the Death Row Records record label in February 2010. He also announced plans to transform the Death Row Records hip hop label into an NFT label. To the anger of his fans, and with the support from peers, Snoop removed Death Row Records records from streaming platforms. This is all part of the ongoing struggle to control content.
Death Row will become an NFT record label. Our artists will go through the metaverse, and a new chain of music. “Just like when we broke the music industry as the first independent label to become major,” Snoop stated via the clubhouse audio app.
Accordingly, the Death Row Records albums by Snoop Dogg & Tha Dogg Pound were removed from many streaming platforms. Billboard reports that Snoop has apparently removed Doggystyle 1993, his seven-times Platinum debut and Tha Dogg Puund 1995 projects from Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music.
Although it had been believed at first that Dr. Dre’s classic 1992 album The Chron would be removed, Howard King, the lawyer for Dre, has contradicted this claim in a statement to Rolling Stone.
King stated that there are “false reports” about Death Row’s ownership. “Dr. Dre has 100% ownership of The Chron.
Snoop confirmed in the same report that he was working with Death Row’s estate to collaborate on Tupac Shakur, the third star of Death Row.
Snoop stated that 2Pac’s masters returned to him last year. But I had a wonderful relationship with his estate and I am confident that we will be able work something out now that Snoop Dogg has taken control of Death Row.
They are now not part of Death Row’s catalog. However, 2Pac’s 1996 Death Row albums All Eyez on Me (and The Don Killuminati) can still be streamed via streaming services.
The reactions of fans to this removal ranged from mildly annoyed to profuse to mildly outraged that they had to go back to an older technology to hear Snoop’s music.

Snoop’s friends were supportive and understood the importance of Snoop taking responsibility for his output.
Master P stated in an interview with HipHopDX that Snoop has made it possible to buy a company that was founded from a foundation he struggled with. It’s all about empowering bosses. Snoop, to me, is No Limit a university.
Snoop was signed to Master P’s No Limit in 1999. He credited producer and rapper with saving his career during a 2020 interview on The Breakfast Club.
Snoop stated that Master P saved his life. I was going to release an album called Death Row, and Mack 10 was going to give me one million dollars…. Master P took me into his office…He said that you have to let this sh-t go.
Twenty years later, Snoop wants to make something new, using his three decades of industry experience. This will be done under the brand that made Snoop famous.
Snoop stated, “I would like to be the first major label in the metaverse,” Death Row would be an NFT.
One of Snoop’s first NFT sales landed in April last year, early on in the NFT boom, with his “Journey of the Dogg” auction seeing one collectable – a one-of-a-kind digital artwork called “Death Row” – selling for over $100,000.28-Feb-2022
According to DappRadar Top NFT Collections rankings, the average price for an NFT from Snoop Dogg’s avatar collection is $1,860.24-Feb-2022
And then Snoop hit the NFT jackpot: earlier this month, he sold over $44 million worth of ‘Stash Box’ NFTs for his new album B.O.D.R in under a week, after releasing 10,000 of the limited edition NFTs via the Gala Music platform.28-Feb-2022
The costs to develop an NFT can vary greatly depending on the type of market. The developer must create code to enable the NFT to function for free. This can cost anywhere from $7 to $150, depending on the complexity of the project. It is up to the creator what format an NFT takes.
Social proof. The social proof associated with the project behind an NFT is one of the decisive factors that determine the NFT’s value. Checking their profiles on social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram can help one gauge their acceptability.12-Mar-2022
According to Billboard, all new Death Row releases will be NFTs, which means ‘Nuthin’ But A G Thang’ could be the first to drop.01-Apr-2022
